the moment you ALL have been waiting for.

Yes, friends, yesterday I actually opened up my copy of Mansfield Park for the first time.

My struggle is not wanting to take away from our monthly discussions, but to add to it, so if the following discussion question will hinder your ability to contribute to our next meeting, then tell me so I can alter any discussion topics I have for the future.

In the last three books, we've seen Jane Austen's satirical commentary on wealth and connections. This book, to me, seems to be no different. What point (and maybe this is obvious) is she trying to make about money? How does it speak to her personal view of true love an happiness?

Let the comments commence!

Have you read this one?

Earlier this week, my friend Sarah *lent me this book to read. I can't remember what we'd been talking about, but I had not mentioned our little book club to her, so I figure that it's providence that she gave it to me!

I thought that it looked familiar, but after reading the back, I decided that I hadn't read it. I'm eager to start it, but I know that would inhibit me from reading Mansfield Park. And we all know how successful I've been with our other books!

After doing a little investigating, I found that I've read the follow-up title by the same author, called Mr. Darcy Broke My Heart. It was ok, but nothing earth-shattering, in my opinion. Anyway, now I know why Jane Austen Ruined My Life looked so familiar!

*Side note: I had to consult Grammar Girl to find out if it is correct to use the word "lent" in that sentence. Since we are fond of all/most things British in our book club, I stuck with that form of the word. But here's what she said, if you're curious. It is always good to get some affirmation from the grammar experts!
